Meet Francine and her daughter Janielle. In this episode, Francine explains some of the hardships that go along with being a mother of a quadriplegic child. Cerebral Palsy is a lifelong congenital disorder, but as Janielle grows older so does her sense of independence and to be just like everyone else. This is Janielle's story.

Mom

There's different types of cerebral palsy and being a quadriplegic, Janielle has limitations. I'm her arms and legs. I bathe her, I feed her, I take her everywhere for her therapy. It's like daily care from 2407. If she has to go to the bathroom, I'll lift her to the bathroom. I'll shower her, dress her. As a mom and a caregiver, I dedicate my life to my daughter.



I haven't found someone where I could say, leave her. It's very frustrating to find a home attendant. I know there's few out there that are good, there's very difficult to find somebody. I want somebody like mom to take care of my daughter.



Janielle

I like to move out on my own.



Mom

Janielle would love to move out on her own. I want Janielle to be independent. She wants to move out. Not too far from mom and dad but it's finding an apartment. Cause even this day and age, not everything is wheelchair friendly. People don't realize, just because you have a disability, does not mean, you know, you wanna live just as comfortable as anybody else. Going into restaurants, going shopping, a normal, normal life.
